Wellmont-Mountain States Granted Certificate of Public Advantage

10.03.17

On September 19, 2017, Commissioner Dr. John Dreyzehner announced that the Tennessee Department of Health (TDOH) issued a certificate of public advantage (COPA) paving the way for Wellmont Health System and Mountain States Health Alliance to explore the creation of  an integrated health system to serve Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Wellmont and Mountain States filed a letter of intent to apply for a COPA with the state of Tennessee more than two years ago on September 16, 2015. Wellmont and Mountain States view the integrated system as a means to provide higher quality and more affordable care in the region while simultaneously enhancing long-term financial stability and sustainability.
